In 1987 Distillers Company Ltd (formed 1877) was acquired by Guinness plc and United Distillers plc emerged as the spirits division of Guinness plc. In 1997 Guinness plc and GrandMet merged to form Diageo plc, and International Distillers & Vintners (of GrandMet) merged with United Distillers to become United Distillers & Vintners. Acquisitions Policy:
