History of the
company/bank:
Foundation of "Henkel & Cie" on September 26th 1876 by Fritz Henkel (1848-1930) in the city of Aachen. In 1878, the company moves to Düsseldorf-Flingern. In 1899, the company moves to Holthausen (until today the location of the parent firm). Since 1904, the company had the status of an "OHG". Up to the year of 1922, the production schedule included washing powders and detergents (1878: "Henkel´s Bleich-Soda", 1907: "Persil", 1920: "Ata").
In 1922, "Henkel & Cie. GmbH" (Produktionsgesellschaft) and "Henkel & Cie. AG" (Vertriebsgesellschaft) are founded. Since 1923 also adhesives, since 1929 detergents, disinfectants and grease-removing means for industrial use, since 1930 preservative agents for the household, since 1946 adhesives for textiles and leather production and since 1948 cosmetics have become a part of Henkel´s production schedule. In the year of 1950, the "Henkel & Cie. GmbH" is transformed into "Persil GmbH", 1969 into "Henkel GmbH" and 1975 finally into "Henkel KGaA". Beginning in 1985, shares of Henkel are traded at the stock exchange.
In 1996, the Henkel-Group consisted of 245 associations. Today Henkel is the world-market leader concerning chemical products based on grease and produced out of natural raw materials and water glass.
In 1996, the Henkel-Group had 47.000 employees, 16.000 in Germany.
