On March 14th 1731 Johann Wilhelm Buderus founded the company by the lease of the "Friedrichshütte" in the town of Laubach in the Vogelsberg region; the sons of J. W. Buderus jr. in 1807 founded the society "J. W. Buderus Söhne;
1861 purchase of the "Hedwigshütte" near Lollar and renaming to "Main - Weser - Hütte"; 1871 dissolution of the society and formation of two separate companies: "L. Fr. Buderus zu Audenschmiede" (liquidated in 1930) and "Offene Handelsgesellschaft Gebr. Buderus zur Main - Weser - Hütte bei Lollar"; 1884 transformation of the trading company to the joint - stock company "Buderus´sche Eisenwerke"; 1899 beginning of the production of cement at the 1870 - 1872 erected "Sophienhütte" in Wetzlar; 1902 commencement of operations of a pipe foundry at the Sophienhütte; 1911 foundation of the "Buderus´sche Handelsgesellschaft" as the company´s trading branch, in particular for the distribution of boilers and radiators that were produced at the Main - Weser - Hütte since the end of the 19th century; 1920 foundation of the joint-stock company "Stahlwerke Buderus - Röchling" as a joint venture of Buderus and the "Röchling" company in Völklingen (1924 renamed to "Stahlwerke Röchling - Buderus"); 1933 pooling agreement with the "Hessisch - Nassauische - Hüttenverein"; 1935 fusion with the Hüttenverein; 1946 separation of the blast furnace divisions in Wetzlar and Oberscheid and of the ore mines in accordance with article 41 of the Hessian constitution; 1952 foundation of the "Hessische Berg- und Hüttenwerke AG" ("Berghütte"); 1958 takeover of the "Burger Eisenwerke"; 1965 assumption of 50% of the shares of the Stahlwerke Röchling - Buderus which were held by Röchling and renaming of the company to "Edelstahlwerke Buderus"; 1965 acquisition of 74% of the shares of Berghütte which were held by the state of Hessen; 1965 Buderus and the "Flick"-group sign a "Organschaftsvertrag" (since 1956 in possession of the majority of shares); 1976 conversion of the Burger Eisenwerke to "Buderus´sche Eisenwerke"; July 22nd 1977 renaming to "Buderus Aktiengesellschaft"; 1987 foundation of a management-holding and creation of five societies: "Buderus Heiztechnik GmbH", "Buderus Bau- und Abwassertechnik GmbH", "Buderus Kundenguß GmbH", "Buderus Küchentechnik GmbH" and "Buderus Sell GmbH"; 1989 disposal of Buderus Küchentechnik GmbH to "Electrolux" (Sweden); 1991 fusion of Bau- und Abwassertechnik GmbH with Buderus Kundenguß GmbH to "Buderus Guss GmbH"; 1992 "Metallgesellschaft"-group gains possession of the majority of shares; 1994 recovery of the status of a "Publikumsgesellschaft"; 1996 takeover of the "Tiroler Röhren- und Metallwerke AG" in Hall; 1997 sale of the Buderus Sell GmbH to the British company "Britax". |
