|
| History of the company/bank: |
After making an option in 1978, for economical and social reasons, the Government created, simultaneously, a Directorate General of Civil Aviation with normative and licensing attributions in the sector, and a Public Corporation Aeroportos e Navegação Aerea - ANA , E.P. , which started its activity on the first day of the year 1978, with administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy. The main objectives of the Corporation were the study, planning, construction, development and operation of airport and air navigation infrastructures. ANA , E.P. was the authority for seven portuguese Airports - Lisboa, Porto, Faro, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Horta and Flores - and for Air Navigation facilities and Air Traffic Control in the Lisboa and Santa Maria Flight Information Regions, which comprised, respectively, the Continent and Madeira Islands , the Azores Islands and an area of North Atlantic, placed under the responsibility of Portugal by international conventions.
It was administered by a Board of colegial nature, with capacity to practise all the necessary actions to ensure the management and development of the Corporation. After the scission of Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea , ANA , E.P. two new corporations were founded:

| Archive description | The corporation ANA EP was the result of the merger between the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the New Lisbon Airport Cabinet. During the merger process the major parts of the archives of both companies were integrated into the new company. As regards general functioning and standardization, the archives were centralized. As regards the hierarchical organization and the geographical dispersion of the branches, the archives were decentralized (Lisbon, Oporto, Azores, Madeira). At present, the archives undergo a process of re-organization and are closed to semi-current records, thereby creating the Central Archive of the company. The Archives are a part of the Serviço de Documentação and the Historical Archive is not yet organized. Some records series are from the 1940s and originate from DGAC as well as Lisbon and Santa Maria (Azores) branches.
The Central Archives collect the records of the Head Office of the Company and of the Lisbon Airport only, since the other airports (Oporto, Faro, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Horta and Flores) do operate their own archives. Shelves:
A museum does collect airport equipment no longer in use. Here especially the recovery of such equipment and its functioning is of special interest.
As a result of the scission of Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea , ANA , E.P. the archives are now under the custody of ANA , Aeroportos de Portugal SA. |
